Mackenzie Financial had one of the best-regarded statements in the mutual funds industry, designed by Simplified Communications Group in 1995. In 2003, however, the company determined that it had to refresh its statement to maintain leadership within the industry, to include additional information, and make the statement easier for clients to understand.
Key features
Key information comes first
The first page of the statement shows the information that the clients are most interested in: how the value of their investments has changed during the statement period and since they opened their account.
Potentially confusing terms are explained
Terms that clients may not understand are explained in plain English where the term is first used.
Relationship of columns made clear
Mathematical symbols are used to show the relationship between the columns showing Number of shares or units, Price per share or unit, and Market value.
When the new statement was introduced in 2004, it was rated the best statement in the Canadian mutual funds industry by Dalbar, Inc., a research firm that evaluates and ranks the largest mutual fund companies on the quality of service they deliver to their clients.
